The Head and the ska / new wave bending "Cyborg"

Atlanta based The Head just shared the last song of a series of singles the trio have released since this May (of 2021). It is called "Cyborg", 'channeling their inner love of Ska and New Wave'. Loving the sort of eclipsing dreamy short burst echo pushed Andy Summers (The Police) guitar sound and the sideways shifting time signatures like the two tone funkiness of Madness. It all works, as does Mike Shaw's evocative vocal aesthetic that genre wise feels sort of Jim Morrison-esque. The result is a cross generational / cross genre hop scotching of 60's psychedelic garden rock and 80's new wave. The maniacal laugh is brilliant and the sway here so very cool.

The Head is comprised of Brothers Mike Shaw (bass, vocals) and Jack Shaw (drums) and Jacob Morrell (guitars) who have been jamming together since high school, writing and performing original songs inspired by the bands they love: trippy Brits like Stone Roses, Spiritualized, Ride, The Verve and Echo and the Bunnymen, and moody Americans like The National, Scott Walker and early R.E.M.
