PUBLIC BODY and the slamming post punk mirror of "Hard To Concentrate"

"fill my head up with empty space..."

Brighton based thought provoking / divergently driven post punk rockers Public Body are hammering about nothing (in a way) on the jaggedly drawn "Hard To Concentrate" and upcoming charging glimpse at their upcoming EP 'Flavour of Labour' dropping on March 3rd, 2022. I fall into the fray right away, like instantly hooked by the sheer bright attack of guitars and hard sideways downbeats and upswings. The counterpoised big bass and booming drums and an otherworldly synth sound is captivating and a punchy bent mirror framework for Seb Gilmore's snarling prose, "I find it hard to concentrate / Where did I leave my? / What do you mean? / Sorry I didn’t catch that!" and agitated ascensions brought on by a former job that sounds irritatingly familiar. There are whirling bits of art punkery that seen to get caught in a glorious repetitive pummel like a washing machine of sameness until snare rolls break the cycle.

"This song was written back when I was in my old job which was in an open plan office. The canteen was on the top floor and also had a balcony that I'd sit on to eat lunch. I’d always end up eating too much - I'm an emotional eater - and then subsequently suffer a carb crash while sitting at the computer doing the most repetitive job, trying to not fall asleep. I miss it to be honest, the balcony, not the job. This is actually one of the first songs I ever wrote but it ended up changing a bit once Theo and Tom joined the band and added some guitar and synth lines which gave it a new lease of life, so we decided to record it for this release." - Seb

This song is so relatable, I had a time or two at a former job when a member of my graphics team had to shake me from a low sugar / boredom induced coma. Reflect and stop what you are doing if the soul crushing scale is too high.

From Press notes:

[Recorded at Echo Zoo studios, engineered by Christoph Skirl and produced by the band’s guitarist Theo Verney (known for his production work for Lazarus Kane, FEET, English Teacher, FUR, Home Counties), "Hard To Concentrate" once again demands the listeners attention from the word go - another inarguable illustration of Public Body's unique indie/post-punk hybrid.]

I dig this. Public Body, comprised of Seb Gilmore, Theo Verney, Joe Stevens, Thom Mills and Tom Bacon, always hit me in a lovely way with bits of late 70's esque proto punk power with the proper amounts of anger, bite and progressive art.
