German singer-songwriter, musician diy producer Izy Bandha likes to spill her guts and her music is her vehicle for doing just that, for being her most honest vulnerable sense. If her genre is punk, it is broken punk or if her genre is art rock, she lifts those artistic rocks and lets the things that exist beneath in the dark out to see the light. Her latest "YOUR SEX IS UGLY" feels wonderfully late 70's proto punk, feels like total ID with wild tattoos. The lyrics have passages that, to me, feel improvisational and others that do not and maybe even some that just have always existed in Izy's head. While I haven't figured out if her words express wanton desire as just that or if there is something here that feels like it is in the throes of addiction or both (or neither). Izy's decision to bathe the vox in a big room sound so you have to strain to hear them is interesting as is the weird sort of alien voice that pops up loud, as if a coy or surreal representation of something that is an affectation of sexuality as conjured up for decades and decades as the stuff of sex magazines. That thing that maybe, ultimately feels so false and sad and maybe, well, ugly. I fully admit I can be overthinking it because that is what I do (sorry).
Whatever the case, "YOUR SEX IS UGLY" is artfully raw and intriguing and curiously "pop" within all the coiffed noise.

izy bandha is an independent singer songwriter, composer and producer who crafts her art in germany. the value of her music bandha describes as a channel to feel the deepest, most honest and vulnerable self. first, starting with writing lyrics to sad emo rap type beats, she soon taught herself some guitar tunes and began recording songs with garageband. inspired by depression and tragic love stories, lyrics mostly thematize broken relationships including unspoken thoughts of a rebellious, broken heart. vocals vary from soft spoken words to upset exclamation of the singer‘s feelings.
