"it's a 40 degree day today..."
Right away, "She Don't Need No One" by Sydney based Jet City Sports Club has a wide eyed presence, sunshine after a dark cold winter and an empowered celebratory sound. There is a big sort of jangle pop tone but with heavy crunches of psych post punk too and Lilla Obradovic's potent vox feels wonderfully self aware, artful and tender. She pulls you into the mixed fray of melancholia, dreaminess and self discovery easily with her exquisite sustains. I love her voice and contained in Jet City Sports Club's overall sound are elements of 80's indie pop and 90's Goth pop, maybe not on the surface but they are there under the currents, beneath the dramatic downbeats, shifting drum work and wanderlustful lead guitar breaks.
Lilla shares:
"'She Don’t Need No One' is a summer anthem about independence, self-assurance and love. It is a laid back, airy indie song with a melancholic reflection of a personal relationship. It features one the bands now signature catchy choruses, which is an easy singalong from the first listen."
