Joan of Arkansas and the elegiac face melting eruption of "Joan of Arkansas"

"These sinners try to shame you, but you will burn them all / I think I love you, Joan of Arkansas..."

"Joan of Arkansas" by the five piece sludge pop band from Phoenix, AZ - Joan of Arkansas is gloriously noisy, erratically drawn (waay outside the lines) and super fuzzy. There is a lot to enjoy, at least for me and likely anyone who enjoys bursts of emotionality done up raw and ready. The almost doo wop punk / surf punk sway, the massive walls of sound, sort of punch drunk rebellion and got your back buddy vibe expressed in Josh's strident (yet every man) vocal aesthetic makes me feel a sort of collision / artful amalgam of Dinosaur Jr, METZ, Punk Neil Young and Flaming Lips (seriously).

Of the track the band shares:

"Written before we stole the title for our band name, Joan of Arkansas (The Song), is a crunchy slow burner with erratic guitars and an explosive chorus. The song reimagines Joan of Arc as a strange, awe-inspiring figure from the Deep South that has become the object of the narrator's obsession."

If you need any help ferreting out the lyrics, go to Joan of Arkansas' BANDCAMP and you will find out that they have a talent for casting askew poetic imagery in their songs as well as melting your face off.

Five piece sludge pop band from Phoenix, Arizona formed through Tinder and Craigslist. Joan of Arkansas is weird, loud, distorted, and lyrically driven. Bright pop dual vocals peeking through distorted sludgy guitar and bass, then topped off with manic drumming. Is it pop? Is it punk? Is it noise? That's for you to decide!

Josh - Bass and vocals
E.P. - Guitar
Zach - Guitar
Colin - Drums
Kayla - Vocals and bad dancing
