Folly Tree and the gorgeous tension of "Chew It"

A constant fixture and collaborator in the Tel Aviv indie music scene, Alex Moshe's solo project, Folly Tree, surprises and captivates on "Chew It" from her recently released album "Remedies". The askew minimalism (that swells and backs down only to feel even more grand and surreal) is a groove based framework for her vocal aesthetic that is not only simply gorgeous but is so artfully drawn. I love how the verses with sort of start stop beats and electric piano feels like post rock and baroque pop intertwined and the chorus feels drenched in a sort of dream pop / R&B indie wash. These changing shifts highlighted by both sonic drenches of glitter and psychedelia give the piece a wide artful range.

"Remedies" was self produced by Alex and released under the Raw Tapes label.

Born in Canada and raised in the Middle East, Alex Moshe named her solo project Folly Tree after waking from a dream about the Tree of Knowledge, whose fruit opened Eve’s eyes in the Garden of Eden. “I woke up and I knew,” says Alex. “What’s the opposite of the Tree of Knowledge? Something more intuitive, unjudgmental, celebrating foolishness. A folly tree.”

And her tree bears fruit: gorgeous, textured, experimental songs, exploring the complex emotions of budding love and healing trauma. Today, Alex is a fixture in Tel Aviv’s vivid music scene — playing with half dozen bands, as well as frequently collaborating with Raw Tapes' iogi.
