I am sitting here fawning all over The Dodies who are a garage rock duo from the southern desert of Israel. What is blowing my mind (after hearing their studio recordings) is poking around on You Tube and seeing them play live. Lead vocalist Yoni Avittan besides possessing an incredible artful vocal aesthetic know his way around the guitar neck. When you are a two piece you have to be a great musician and Yoni is one, letting power chords ring while he spits out lead embellishments and his acoustic guitar work (again on live you tube performances) is exquisite. They you have his band mate Ran Aronson who too is a great singer, harmonizing in the background while playing his drum kit and filling the deep end by playing keyboard, often times bass line but other times other embellishments.
"No Silver Lining", from their 2022 diverse full length "Floating in Limbo", is a full throttle alt rocker with a dense guitar sound and Yoni's vocals that slide effortlessly into high register punchy falsettos while Ran anchors it all with shifting drum patterns and synth bass lines. I implore you to play this as loud as you can stand. The track was produced by Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-Guns N' Roses, Sons of Apollo). There is something about a two piece heavy rock outfit that is totally exhilarating. "No Silver Lining" is the first single release and my hope is that these guys catch fire. I would love to see them open up for Jack White. For some reason that just feels right and just in my mind. AND it would be such a killer show.
