Whispering Knights and the intricate, timeless wonder of "Night Grows" (Official Video)

"summer girl with the snowfall eyes and the color of autumn in you hair..."

Some songs that feel / sound simply drawn on the surface anyway can just stir up so many things in my brain and heart. This is the case of "Night Grows" by Warwickshire, UK Whispering Knights who comprised (primarily) of Olly Vert and Joshua Vizor craft their sonic journeys in their home studio. Those psychedelic folk rock ideas, dreams, songs have been percolating and pieced together since 2014 and will finally come together for their upcoming album "Alight for Midnight".

One thing is apparent when you listen to "Night Grows" is that it, from an artistic standpoint, exists in a timeless place. It's bones and heart are folk, but it's flesh has elegant 50's dream pop embellishments and I feel classical Irish folk sensations and when the song gets big even a sort of undefinable touch of starry eyed alt rock tones that were an offshoot of 50's and 60's rock, something that the Pixies, Bowie, Sonic Youth and Husker Du (just to mention a few) understood or if they didn't utilized in their artistry anyway. I hear that here too.

Needless to say, and if you haven't guessed I absolutely adore this song. The plaintive, melancholy but lovely vocals spouting poetry from another time, the sing song chord / bass progs, the sort of surf rock guitar and elegant 50's dream pop embellishments and the art rock swells of sound. Damn. So amazing.

Whispering Knights are an ensemble from Warwickshire whose sounds delve into the psychedelic folk/rock genre.

Named after a set of sacred stones in the Cotswolds the band do not shy away from the mystical side of life.

Their record Alight for Midnight has been brewing since 2014 and is now finally ready for the world’s consumption.

The band is primarily composed of two members, Olly Vert & Joshua Vizor who have recorded all the parts for the album in a home studio.

Joshua would bring the songs he had written on an old nylon acoustic to Olly who would then have free rein to explore the sonic possibilities with further arrangements.

Since formation, the band have kept their existence mysterious and so far have chosen to play only one show, the prestigious Lunar Festival an event held in Tanworth in Arden, the home of Nick Drake.

The album promises to bring an ebb and flow of emotions and dynamics that should please nearly every listener. With a heavy emphasis on lyrical depth, folk style acoustic, fanciful melody and psychedelic electric guitar riffs.

They are looking to the future with the hope of a few live sessions and festivals in the pipeline.

Their first single Night Grows is a jaunty outing with a side of melancholy but overall feels nostalgic and comforting.
