I was raised in Whittier, California and we had a frenetic boxer named Duke who we (as kids) used to get all riled up by being hyper ourselves until Duke would flip out and spin crazily chasing his tail which wasn't easy because it was lopped of into a short stub. Poor guy he could never catch it. Back then we thought that people in Pasadena, a city we would mock by saying Passa-dane-yah, were painfully rich and upper scale, the bourgeoisie white picket pretty people to the East Whittier scuffy proletariats.
Those thoughts came fluttering or stumbling in my un-inebriated brain because the runaway jagged little pill of an indie rock song "Quiet Distant Wistful" is a frenetic jammy rocker that chases it's own tail (in a way) and the 3 piece band that offers it is AUDISOUP and they hail from Pasadena (California). Anyway, I love the hyper energy and fluid guitar lines. The sliding guitar maneuvers with such a great level of distortion and the solid drumming, not flashy but with such wonderful embellishments that serve the song so well (for some reason I thought of David Lovering of the Pixies), and earthy vox that feel somehow steeped in pure late 70's indie (think Peter Case: The Plimsouls). Totally dig this song that the bands says is "A song for introverts. Inspired by events that took place during a family road trip from California to Montana."
