Birgit Bidder and the transporting, goose bumps inducing "You Don't Wanna Know" (Live Performance)

Swedish songwriter, musician, composer, arranger and obvious starry eyed dreamer Birgit Bidder possesses an incredible, stunning voice. On the transportive, goose bumps inducing "You Don't Wanna Know" she sweeps you up, embraces you, hold you in her sonic gaze. The track that she wrote and arranged with a huge orchestra and backing pop band is recorded live. Playing piano and singing, Birgit exquisitely blends 60's Detroit soul, 60's Brit pop with gospel and jazz dipped filters in what feels like retro soul on an ethereal level. Whatever you call it, it is lovely and powerful and while Birgit's vocal aesthetic is amazingly fluid in range I think it is her essence, her earnest earthy textures, her personal sonic finger print that is key here.

"You Don't Wanna Know" is from Birgit's most recent album "I Used To Dream" comprised of 8 varied songs. All songs are composed and arranged by Birgit Bidder and performed in front of a live audience (one time performance) with Modern Fantazias at Södra Teatern in Stockholm, Sweden conducted by Hans Ek and perfectly engineered, mixed and mastered by Nille Perned at Mobilstudion.

Listening to "I Used To Dream" in it's entirety front to back with the instrumental opener and closer and you do feel like you are in a modern musical. While some key songs swim in an orchestral chamber pop milieu that sort of feels like soul pop and broad Americana Broadway (like Motown meets Rodgers and Hammerstein) there are interesting exceptions like the avant pop, darkly drawn "I'm Your Kid" and the jazz pop rock feral fusion of "Leia" that show Birgit's breath and scope as songwriter and composer. She embodies a broad theatricality in her art so it feels highly appropriate that Birgit would lend her talents to an opera and she has.

Currently Birgit is working as an opera singer in ”Eurydike" (where she sings several solo numbers based on Einstürzende Neubaten and Nico songs). The world premiere took place at Wermland Opera in Sweden on the 10th of March 2022.

Birgit Bidder stands as an amazing, unique, shape shifting force of nature.
