onedaybear and the blended post punk whimsy of "Marry You"

"we live in a pineapple under the sea..."

Pushing play on "Marry You" by Manchester, UK based onedaybear is a mindbender, a lovely one. There is something about it that feels late 70's proto punkian and 90's goth pop-esque while staying fresh, while feeling contemporary but make no mistake there is a beautiful blanket of nostalgia embracing you. It might be the jagged bass and drums connection, or the staccato lead guitar hooks that maybe blended subtly with vox (or synth) carry a youthful, almost childlike la di da presence. Apart from the Sponge Bob Square Pants nod, it is as if your 12 year old self is all ID and playfully humming while riding your bike down safe streets.

The vocal aesthetic, a blend of spoken word and thankfully containing a UK accent feels matter of factly aloof but in an artistic way. The imagery cast is both whimsical and endearing while the harder edge music jams. As I continue to listen I feel an 80's mod sound too at the soft center making it even more brilliant. onedaybear here and unbelievably, a solo project, is utterly unique spouting poetry about his dreams and enchanting times in Dublin.
