Rosalyn and the avant pop / R&B indie grooves of "Spin"

"gotta get it right, spinning around you... spinning around only you..."

"Spin" by Thailand based Rosalyn (or โรสศิริน) turns on deep funk indie grooves and pop / rock indie dreaminess. There is something else I hear, a kind of self awareness, a homage to 90's soul pop and straight R&B indie filtered through contemporary avant pop. It is like beneath the pop rock there are underlying psychedelic currents of artists like MGMT, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Porches, St. Vincent and I dig those complexities. Maybe I am imagining these amalgams of genres but I don't think so.

"Spin" is the third song from Rosalyn's debut album "SKIN".

Rosalyn or โรสศิริน is a buzzing up-and-coming indie band originally formed in 2016 by three school friends. Inspired by artists like Led Zeppelin, Tame Impala, Daniel Caesar, and Rhye, the young trio was obsessed with the idea of creating fresh, dreamy indie music. The name Rosalyn comes from their mutual crush of the same girl at their school, and like the girl Rosalyn, the band’s music is beautiful, sophisticated and at the same time, familiar and easy to fall in love with.

Rosalyn released their first single “LoverFriend” in August 2019, which received an abundance of praise from fans and made it to the top 30 on Cat Radio. In its first month it grossed over 36000 plays on Spotify, being picked on several popular Thai indie playlists, including อินดี้โดนใจ (Indie Dohn Jai). This November Rosalyn will join Cat Expo 6 for their first official festival slot and plan to release several new tracks in 2020. They dream of touring internationally and joining the best festivals in Thailand such as Wonderfruit, Maho Rasop, Fungjai's events, Big Mountain and VERY Festival. Recently, Rosalyn released their new single “Roxy”. The track is inspired by the nickname of the band’s crush “Rosalyn”. A very dreamy tune, thanks to the mellow sound of the synth with an addition of gospel inspired vocals, Roxy will surely take you on a melancholy trip. This year the band’s dream of playing at Wonderfruit came true as they were selected by the Intermission program to perform at the festival. Through this Rosalyn will get the chance to attend a workshop with Howie B, a world class producer who has worked with popular artists such as U2, Bjork, Massive Attack and many more
