Skinny Dippers and the sweet floating adoration of "Boat On The Water" (Official Video)

"have you seen her lately 'round here, I know what she needs..."

Soft, mellow, tender music serves an admirable purpose. Besides being a wonderful sonic appetizer before falling in love, it chips away at those of us who are too hard. It lets us experience the softness of our humanity, it can help us tap into our own vulnerability which is important because feeling vulnerable in a deep way is really the only way to access a deep inner strength that we all need when times get tough. It is a complex thing. "Boat On The Water" by Skinny Dippers, the Brooklyn NY based Indie Music project formed in 2020 and fronted by singer/songwriter Ryan Gross, and from the debut album "The Town & The City (dropping August 2022), is a beautiful mellow song.

In many ways, "Boat On The Water" has that kind of magical late 70's pop sensibility. A time when soft pop songs, always G rated, create rambling romantic soundscapes that had lyrics drawn in metaphorical ways with poetry just vague enough that it could be interpreted in hundreds of ways. It is that kind of song. It is nostalgic. It is then and now. It is a tranquil pool between Christopher Cross and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Enjoy it.

Skinny Dippers is a Brooklyn NY based Indie Music project formed in 2020 and fronted by singer/songwriter Ryan Gross. Drawing from his roots growing up on the coast of Maine, his style spans a broad range of genres by blending guitar driven indie rock arrangements with analog synthesizers and choral harmonies. The songwriting shares inside jokes and intimate moments through understated lyricism while capturing personal moments and turning them into feelings every listener can relate to. Musically the band pulls from a number of influences including artists like Hovvdy, TOLEDO, The Shins, and Stephen Malkmus.

In 2021 Gross enlisted the help of neighbors Jordan Dunn-Pilz and Dan Alvarez of the band TOLEDO to join as collaborators and producers on his debut album The Town & The City. The songs blend Indie-Rock, Folk, and Dream Pop forming a collection of stories about growing up on the rural coast and moving into adulthood in the depths of New York City.
