Doo Crowder and the pure love and paean of "Goodbye My Favorite"

"good bye my dearest, I'm seeing the clearest, the shape our lives have made..."

It is not often that I slip into a new song and immediately fall in love with it. "Goodbye My Favorite" by the ever curious, avant indie singer-songwriter Doo Crowder not only got under my skin but cast goose bump riddled chills across it. Before even knowing what birthed the song I told myself and my wife that I have found my funeral song. That sound maudlin, I know but I am constructing a list. This eulogy song is understated in construction but exquisitely beautiful, 30 seconds in with chills in tow I felt an amalgam of Elliot Smith and Paul McCartney (circa 1970 post Beatles).

You can feel Crowder's depth of emotion in his voice, upfront and close to you and the balance of voice and guitar is perfectly balanced. Guitar and voice ebbing and flowing to the fore front in a natural way, the guitar and vocal textures hanging and retreating, apart and coming together dancing with each other. This is the kind of song that I could listen to for hours curled in a blanket on the couch. A soundscape for reflection.

Doo Crowder shares:

"This song (Recorded by David Bielanko and McKinley Yarrington at 145 Recording Millheim, PA)is dedicated to my mom, Nancy, who died at the end of March."
