The Long Agos and the artful, weird and wonderful "Obergurgl" (Official Video)

"he had the best time he'd ever had..."

UK's The Long Agos just released a 10 track concept album called "Good Hiding Places" and while I have not dived in completely, the first track ""Obergurgl" certainly implanted a sonic hook in my cheek and reeled me in within 15 seconds. There is an otherworld, surreal tone from the start with trippy sounds like transmissions from another realm all together and then it falls into organic sort of art folk sound with passionate vox pushed by a kick heavy beat. There are belly tones that might be a xylophone and while this beautiful campfire song gets more passionate with multiple voices telling curious stories. During all this you feel bits of quirky surreal ambiance in the background including vocal yelps and howls. It all makes for a lovely flight of fancy with dips of turbulence that holds your heart in your throat. I adore the melodies interwoven and the odd sensibilities. I thought of XTC and Modest Mouse and Man Man. Cool.

Obergurgl is a village in the Ă–tztal Alps in Tyrol, Austria and while I don't know how it fits into the album I thought I would mention it.

Of the track that band shares:

"Obergurgl"... A nostalgic trip to a time when various, cost free means of escape and empowerment were readily accessible, on our doorsteps. In harmony, acoustically marching through innocent and satisfyingly reckless times, aurally juxtaposed with growling amp feedback, synthesized melody and dirty drums. Thus, representing the dwellings of modern generations, oblivious in opaque bubbles, consumed by acquisition culture. "Well trodden paths now overgrown.. Mountains insurmountable, it's Obergurgl or nowhere!"

"Good Hiding Places" released 05.08.22: a concept album with dark subject matters juxtaposed with nice melodic tunes and harmonies.

Once upon a time, there was an indie-folk superband, The Long Agos. They've been in hiding for many years but have returned with a new album of carefully restored tracks from long ago called Good Hiding Places, OUT NOW!

Taking their name from a classic Small Faces track, The Long Agos are inspired by anything that was ever any good from long ago.

Going back to basics, writing acoustically focused songs, they have created this pseudo concept album with all interesting stuff like murder, depravity, addiction, prostitution and suicide at the heart of murky matters... With the concept being accentuated by the juxtaposition of nice melodic tunes and harmonies.

** At this particular time we find ourselves in a financial pinch due to many factors. We want to keep AP going. It has been a passion project for over 13 years. PLEASE consider donating, we could really use the support. Thanks so much
