"oh the word is between us..."
You are forewarned, before you watch and listen to the Official Video for "the world is between us" by Icelandic singer-songwriter Arny Margret, as directed by Erlendur Sveinsson, you best put on a sweater or wrap yourself in a comfy blanket. The scenes of frozen ice flows and windswept snowdrifts are perfect for the plaintive, even glacial melancholia of Arny's track taken from her new album "they only talk about the weather" out on October 21st (2022). Her emotional vocal countenance about being separated by time and space from the one you love the most is tenderly carried on nimble acoustic guitar and beautiful orchestrations supported by self harmonies that pull at you, draw you into the coldness and warmth of her poetry.
Maybe one of the most moving elements in the song are the layers of Arny's vocal breathy "hmmmms" mirroring orchestral sounds after the second chorus and adding gravitas to the remainder of the song. So, so beautiful like snow falling.

Born and raised in a small town called Ísafjörður, she attended a music school from the age of six learning to play the piano. When she was 14 she got her first guitar and spent hours and days in her bedroom teaching herself to play it, slowly reaching the confidence to write her own music. Her music and lyrics paint beautiful and yet painful images inspired by her personal experiences and surroundings. Through her music one can almost experience how it is to live in an isolated place, surrounded by tall mountains that block the sun for a few months every year. Her music can best be described as indie folk and although Arny Margret clearly has a sound of her own, she draws influence from the likes of Adrianne Lenker, Aldous Harding, Gregory Alan Isakov and fellow Icelander Ásgeir. Arny Margret is currently recording her debut album at studio Hljóðriti in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland.
