The Sleeplings and the alt rock / art pop surprises of 'All Hallows Eve'

"miss you most this time of year..."

"All Hallows Eve" by the Danish alt rock trio The Sleeplings starts off sounding mysterious, even haunting but then, surprisingly, once guitarist Jesper Kragh's vocals come in with a lovely pop bounce as the drums and bass dance along, it hits you like an artful alt pop track with romance wave tones. In fact I though of artists like Squeeze or Elvis Costello at this point. The song shape shifts again as the chorus erupts. Love the different atmospheres and sonic colors these guys draw from. Drummer Steen Lauridsen, solid but big (in a Pixies way) and Peter Just, perfectly whimsical on piano/synth-bass round out the sound.

Very cool, inviting and, again, darkly romantic. Somehow it all feels like a crushing collision of artists like the aforementioned Elvis Costello, Queens of the Stone Age, Danny Elfman and Superchunk. How fucking cool is that?

'All Hallows Eve' is from The Sleeplings' new EP 'Passings'.

The Sleeplings are a Danish trio known for their blend of folk rock, post rock and psychedelic pop, and whose sound is as vibrant as it is dark, as introverted as it is uncompromised.

The band officially debuted in 2017 with a critically acclaimed album Elusive Lights of the Long-Forgotten. With Steen Lauridsen on drums, Peter Just on piano/synth-bass and Jesper Kragh as the frontman on vocals and guitar, their debut full-length proved to be a delight even for the most demanding listeners and critics. Having received a wonderful five star rating from GAFFA, one of Denmark’s biggest music magazines, it was widely recognised by local and international media, including RockZeit or P4 DK Radio.

Undoubtedly, The Sleeplings are far from being amateurs in what they do, thanks to their carefully curated eerie and romantic compositions. By September 16th 2022 the band will release a shiny new EP, from which Light Leaks and June are the first singles.
