Gen and The Degenerates and the heavy metal timelessness of 'My Perfect'

"you body pressed against my body, my body against the chain link..."

The raw potent rock abandon of 'My Perfect' by Liverpool's Gen and The Degenerates eclipses genres. It is bathed in sinewy alt rock or maybe gutter punk or maybe mid 80's hair metal or Gothic rock, heavy metal or even baroque pop (or punk) on high. The exact sonic nucleic acid may not be as important as the attack and attitude centered around ultra chunky heavy guitars and lead singer Gen Degenerate's husky and artful vocal countenance. Her aesthetic is at once pure slick leather rock as it is drug laden cut glass like a cross generational amalgam of a mid 70's Pat Benatar, 80's Joan Jett and early 90's Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) and just so ultra cool.

Dig this. Gen and The Degenerates' sound is so rock n roll as to be utterly timeless.

The definition of commitment is getting something tattooed on you, and that’s what Gen and the Degenerates have done. They believe deeply in the beautifully riotous noise they’re making, so much so that the whole band went for matching tattoos. Combining the edge of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts with the rock n roll heart of The Struts, Gen and the Degenerates have a true commitment to the sound of what they’re creating. It’s this dedication and determination that fuels some of their songs. Most of them meeting through school and college, the band moved to Liverpool and found their “final piece of the puzzle” who came in the form of lead singer Gen Degenerate.

This band is clear in their ambitions; “We want world domination. That’s a statement of intent.” Tattoos are optional, but Gen and the Degenerates want you as part of the family and they’re not here to mess around... Are you in?
