Mystic Peach and the heavy carnival mirror reflections of 'Death of Me' (Official Video)

"it's the season nor the reason to exist..."

The cagey sideways spiral of 'Death of Me' by UK psych punk trio Mystic Peach is so sonically rich in it's decay. From the very onset, the distorted caustic guitar hook latches onto you like a parasite and doesn't let you go. There is a strong grunge atmosphere here but it is so saturated with Gothic rock psychedelic tones that is feels more dark. Vocalist and guitarist Curtis Gale seems to relish in the heaviness with his vocal performance, wonky, thoughtful, a raised eyebrow, sly reflections in a carnival mirror.

Elaborating on the song he explains, "Trying to extract my feelings and emotions around 'Death Of Me' is hard. There’s been propaganda we’ve had to endure, especially over the last 3 years, that had a massive impact on this - but politics is not the protagonist, it’s the narrator."

He adds:

"Trying to figure out what's reality or my imagination and the realization that I’ve lost touch with people - my empathy, sympathy, love and happiness towards them has nearly diminished. The followers call out the oppressed for being manipulated and selfish. I stood with them, under cover, trapped playing devil’s advocate and it made me want to kill myself. Upon reflection, political, religious and societal differences will never be the problem, it’s the people who are conditioned to it. They’ll more likely get to me before cigarettes do."

As press notey stuff reveal:

'Death of Me" is [rooted in themes of political and societal angst, the track is a snarling snap at the state of the world in 2022 that stays true to the band's plethora of sounds and styles across their heavy discography, with snaking guitars and ominous percussion to boot.]

No two ways about it, the state of the world is fucked up and if you think about the evil that men do too much we all will end up in the fetal position and in a state of severe depression. Whether crafting politico punk, voting, getting involved in shaping minds, becoming community active or all of those things, our survival is rooted always in speaking out and in helping others.
