Glassmanet and the spinning invisible rabbit holes of "Glassplanet" debut micro-album

"I remember almost drowning once but it could just be a memory..."

As art forms seem to getting more compressed, the spinning invisible rabbit holes of "Glassplanet", the debut micro album by Glassmanet (a psychedelic dream pop project of an audio/visual artist from Norway) might dazzle some and infuriate others. Purists who already see less widespread interest in long form albums and move to multi-artist playlists might find the idea of an eight track album that is just more than 10 minutes long to go against their grain, splinters of sound instead full formed works. And maybe if you pull out a short piece like "Microplastic Microcosmos" (Drops In The Ocean) at 47 seconds long it might sound incomplete but as placed before the wonderful "Hypnagogic Hydrosphere" at 1 minute and 54 seconds that feels like something between twee punk and late 70's psych rock (or as my friend calls "hippie shit") it makes
"Microplastic Microcosmos" sound like an extension of it, a vestigial sonic limb maybe, an interlude, a precursor. And the following track, "Pale Blue" at also 1 min 54 seconds feels a super dreamy other part of the journey.

In fact, 4 of the core center tracks of this micro-album are almost identical in length and shy of the 2 minute mark, not all that short and after all, one of the best, iconic songs every written Blitzkrieg Bop (Ramones) is only 2:12. Somewhere in my memory Joey Ramone said that they play short songs because they don't have a lot of spare time.

In my opinion "Glassplanet" as a micro album should be listened to as such, all in one sitting or you can consider it one long-ish song. There is enough wonderful connective sonic tissue that joins them all as one turning, spinning journey so enjoy it as such, even you purists.
