"ask the neighbors for their wifi, we can pay them back in beer..."
Bopping my head to the power pop garage rock swing of "Sweet Little Place on Agricola" by Halifax, Nova Scotia based Daveband, a sort of love letter to apartment hunting, and I couldn't help but think about the relationship we have with the places we live in. Sometimes it mirrors our relationships with people. We remember when the pipes flooded the downstairs and when the whole fucking thing fell apart. Our homes, our community runs through our veins either poisoning us or feeling like our life blood, enriching us, making us better.
"Sweet Little Place on Agricola" was recorded with Canadian Indie Rock legends Jose Contreras of By Divine Right and Charles Austin of The Superfriendz and is part of a Double A-Side release along with Daveband's saucy and fun "Pizza Girl". At the core of Daveband is primary songwriter Dave Archibald and the breath and span of the sonics here feel to me, run the gamut of late 70's proto power pop to American 90's indie college radio (LOVE this period) to 2008 to 2012 revisionist rock. Love the acerbic lyrics that charm, the tasty lead licks that sound fun to play, the best bud vocal aesthetic, the raw American punk classicalism and the earnest take on all of the aforementioned aesthetics. There is no pretense here that I am feeling, just cool rock tunes born out of real experiences.
Pop yourself a cold one, listen with friends and remember things from your past (or present).

Serving smiles “hot, fresh, and ready” since 2015, Daveband is a power-pop rock and roll band from Halifax, NS. Band leader and primary songwriter Dave Archibald, grew up listening to his dad’s record collection dubbed to tape, and that’s what this band sounds like: early 60’s jukebox rock filtered through a cheap mid 90’s boombox. Jangly guitars and chunky rhythms pair with hooky melodies and smooth vocals to form catchy, upbeat, danceable bops. Unflinchingly earnest and steeped in near-nostalgia, the songs detail slice-of-life moments that explore the joys and challenges of daily life.
