Step into "Radioskugga" by Gothenburg, Sweden's noise pop / indie rock outfit Gryningen and your eyes will widen and your pulse will quicken. It is the kind of shape shifting song that if you witnessed it live (in some non-descript club) you would either stand there with your mouth open or with a frozen smile while you moshed crazily spilling your beer on others. It moves through moments of trippy psychedelic slacker rock and then settles into a monstrous indie rock jam with an opening guitar prog that is incredibly infectious. It has the kind of shapes that scream abandoned youth (from any generation really) and I thought of bands like Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Yuck and, maybe more so, different iterations of Thurston Moore imaginings but mostly Chelsea Light Moving.
Gryningen started out as a solo project for lead singer and guitarist Björn Alfredson and grew into a full band incorporating influences from the Swedish prog movement of the 70's, shoegaze and alt rock. On May 21st 2021 Gryningen released their debut single 12.43 / Hörnet on Trollkarlen Records. The band is currently working on their debut album due to be released on the label in early 2023.
