Scott Hepple and the blistering, passionate "Letting Go" (Official Video)

"and we'll transform like butterflies, cells reborn..."

Sometimes when a brand new song enters my head, especially one as absolutely vibrant as "Letting Go" by Newcastle, UK based musician Scott Hepple, it send's my scattered brain in a dozen directions. It is the way my mind functions as a music writer and sometimes it is a curse. Instead of just enjoying a piece of music that I am instantly gravitating towards, I am dissecting, making connection and all that stuff.

I began crushing on Scott's sound 30 seconds in. The performance here is so jammy, so passionate. I love the guitar sound and the explosiveness of the song from top to bottom. Different bands from different times popped into my head for whatever reason and for different reasons, Badfinger / Magnolia Electric Co. / Small Faces / The Allman Brothers. The sheer energy by Scott and his band as they played "Letting Go" live (recorded analogue) at Duncan Lloyd's (Maximo Park) studio speaks to how bands used to record, all at once, free wheeling, no click tracks, no quantizing needed. By the way, the lead breaks that give way, at times to dual leads is everything.

"The song's main theme of reincarnation goes hand in hand with the production" Scott says. "I wanted to produce the overdriven raw analogue sound that was rife in the early 70s, which is where I take alot of my inspiration from".

This is Scott Hepple's debut single as a solo artist and I look forward to hearing more.
