Casual Drag and the raw punk throttle of "I Like It"

"oh well, welcome to hell..."

Listening to the punk throttle of "I Like It" by the three piece Scottish garage punk outfit Casual Drag with it's smashing bass and drums dance, stomping surf punkish guitar strikes and scowling vox and I can't help but envision a crammed sweaty venue buzzing with energy. There is a revisionist quality here and like an amalgam of bands like the Stooges, Richard Hell and the Voidoids and The Skids, there is a raw crooked smile aesthetic and I dig that.

["I Like It" is the lead track of Casual Drag's debut EP dropping on March 24th recorded at Green Door Studio in Glasgow. Written in frantic sessions post-lockdown, the song's lyrics poke fun at cancel culture.]

Snarling vocals over feral guitar riffs, backed by pounding drums and bass – Scottish garage punk three-piece Casual Drag have earned a reputation as a must-see live band through a series of packed and frenetic shows across their homeland.

Their standout brand of clattering garage-rock has led to support slots with Joe Talbot of IDLES, Lice, Flat Worms, Gaygirl, MEMES and Press Club.

Singles 'Bleach Head' and 'Johnny' were championed by BBC Introducing, BBC6 Music's Tom Robinson, and Amazing Radio's Jim Gellatly.

A first festival slot this summer followed, opening for Warmduscher at this year’s Hidden Door arts festival in Edinburgh

Having played to packed and feverish crowds across Scotland – the Glasgow band will take their live show to the rest of the UK in 2023 as their debut EP is released.
