Thavoron and the intimate sparkling pain of "Struck" (Official Video)

"late night / missed texts / you leave / unread / losing the flame / before it lights..."

Young love if crushed, if torn apart might just hurt worse than at any other time in your life maybe because the wounds occur on more tender skin and hopeful hearts. "Struck" by 22-year-old Seattle-based queer Cambodian-American Thavoron is a textured, intimate ballad about falling love much too hard too fast. It begins on emotional electric guitar picked lines offset by Thavoron's layered vox and self harmonies. Thavoron's vocal countenance feels every bit bathed in teenage angst, sitting on the roof and gazing at the stars.

Press notey stuff share:

Thavoron pulls inspiration from contemporaries such as Frank Ocean, Faye Webster, and Bon Iver.

Growing up as a first-generation Cambodian-American and not feeling represented in the music industry, Thavoron hopes to help pave the way for Southeast/Asian American and queer artists alike looking for a sense of creative community:

“..being surrounded by people I couldn’t fully relate to resorted to me locking myself up in my bedroom to just write to try and make sense of all my differences as a person.”

"Struck" makes me think back on the uncertainty of young love, of not knowing what those feeling ever mean and why that other person doesn't feel the same way.
