The Lylacs and the alluring alt pop noir atmospheres of "Lovers/Friends" featuring Francis Blume and India Coombs

"only always, never when..."

Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton, Nick Cave and P.J Harvey, Iggy Pop and Kate Pierson, Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis and Benji Hughes, I am an admitted sucker for duets especially for those between a male and female voice. And as I type that I know that might open up a whole other discussion but I will leave that for another time. Listening to "Lovers/Friends" by The Lylacs and featuring the vocal countenances of Francis Blume and India Coombs (All Things Blue) is yet another duet to embrace, to let pour over you with all it's pop noir atmospheres that smash together maybe half a dozen genres if you get down to it. There is a wonderful sort of surf rock meets Western country meets baroque pop meets 80's new wave and the mashing up is done so evocatively, so perfectly that you will likely not even notice it at first. The sparkling production, the pushed off beat cadence, the horror pop orchestrations and especially, ESPECIALLY, Blume's and Coomb's vocal aesthetics, absolutely aloof, yet alluring, is all drop dead fucking gorgeous.

From press notes:

[Lovers/Friends was recorded with producer Jon Joseph (Borns, Mini Trees, Gothic Tropic) and features singers Francis Blume and India Coombs (All Things Blue) singing from the two different perspectives in a messy relationship. Their voices combine to create a lush, dreamy chorus that's rich with sonic textures and emotion.]
