The Martyr and the raw hybrid punk push of "My Friends Look Funny"

"my friends look like zombies...."

Jagged, exquisitely lo-fi with a bass line that cajoles and punk guitar shapes that push you around as if you were in a mosh pit, "My Friends Look Funny" by The Martyr, the solo project of a 26 year old Seattle transplanted, Los Angeles based songwriter, musician, gets this kind of punk / art pop track right. It works because it doesn't try to hard with unnecessary over production and Martyr has an evocative vocal aesthetic the exists between late 70's proto punk, 90's busker punk and current hybrid punk sounds. "My Friends Look Funny", like any good punk track, is self-deprecating, raucous, angst ridden and under 2 and a half minutes long.
