GAZOOTA and the dream drenched, funky post rock walls of "Airship"

"Catch the sorry wind / Take all we give for the lone mission / Call me Lucifer / In the holy water / Start the engine blind...

Goth Pop-esque, bohemian psychedelic, art funky and post rockish "Airship" by Fullerton, California based self described "desert-kraut-psychonaut band" GAZOOTA is instantly compelling. The song has a vibe that is drenched (to me) in 80's shiny suited new wave when it was almost mandatory for rock songs to be danceable while not afraid to cast stories in a pastiche of goth / sci-fi / psych / androgyny and androids alike.

In one respect "Airship" feels timeless and I am feeling an amalgam of artists like Yawn / Cars Get Crushed / Love and Rockets / Explosions in the Sky / The Man I Fell In Love With, of course, filtered through GAZOOTA themselves. One more thing, the opening guitar sound and riff (before it diverts) could of easily been Echo and the Bunnymen or Siouxsie and the Banshees and that is a great thing.

"Airship" is from the GAZOOTA's debut album "Genesis" that just dropped, today, May 16th, 2023, self-recorded and produced at their very own Studio 1313B.

Hell yeah.
