"Keep your face closed / show them nothing / cursing everyone, cursing myself now / trying to forget / the legend of my love..."
The adorations captured in the folksy sort of busker punk toned ballad "Legend of Your Love" sticks in my brain and heart for days on end after hearing it. The track is by singer-songwriter, multi-media artist Noa Lachmi (Danish/Israeli/Yemeni), known from the Danish band Velvet Volume. Noa's vocal countenance will get in your head, thoroughly unique she draws every syllable out in interesting ways with equal parts passion and beauty. The instrumentation is moving, subtlety measured moving on rhythmic guitar, somber piano and a pushed bass and drums dance.
Somehow within the overall sound and Noa's vocal character I thought of an amalgam of the Velvet Underground (with Nico), Lou Reed, Bob Dylan and oddly enough (or maybe not) The Stooges. The song cuts deeply personal.
Noa expounds:
“‘Legend of Your Love’ is a moving testament to the special bond and love that exists within diasporic families, transcending time and space. It’s a very nostalgic love song for me and one of the first songs, the first ever ballad, I wrote for my solo-project. It’s interesting because I feel super old singing it and it makes me feel so comfortably at home in it, but at the same time really homesick. I got very emotional, especially at the end of the song when it all settles down, touched by my own words cause they’re so calm and soothing.”

I love this lyrical passage:
"This is my garden of piece / I’ll kiss every leaf / I’ll walk slow to better hear / to better see to better hear / the legend of our love / to better hear to better feel / the legend of our love..."
For me the song and the back story conjures up thoughts about my family (and extended family). We all immigrated to America and were met with degrees of hate and love, understanding and mockery.
