Cereus Bright and the gorgeous romance and veiled sadness of "Seven Wonders" (Official Video)

"Seven wonders / Sleeping in the sands / Ancient lovers / Reaching out their hands / Vision without / With or without you / There is no sky / Starting to doubt you / Starting doubt you’re on my side / Everything we know / Melts away, there is / Nothing left but a / Face without a frame / Everything we know / Melts away...

"Seven Wonders" by Cereus Bright, the moniker of Knoxville songwriter Tyler Anthony might very well sweep you off your feet, especially if you have a penchant for darkly despondent old movies in the realm of Last Days of Disco, Harold and Maude, Little Murders but are also severely romantic and sad underneath, behind your affable self. At least that is my notion after hearing this gorgeous dancer of a song. I am loving the orchestrations full of whimsy and tears, ghosts of Oscar and Hammerstein and Radiohead oddly enough at almost the same time. Anthony's vocal aesthetic (maybe doubled or self harmonized) is at once aloof (artfully so), as if wearing a thinly veiled disguise or persona but with cracks where we can see the real him too.

I am for some reason feeling an amalgam of artists like Moody Blues, Harry Nilsson, Tangerine Dream and Emitt Rhodes or something like that, or maybe not. It really doesn't matter and I might be off in this regard but what matters to me is that this sound here feels elevated, heads above most of the trope filled songs floating in the pop ether and for that reason I truly appreciate it.

Cereus Bright is the indie folk moniker of songwriter, Tyler Anthony. After a multi-year hiatus, Anthony returns with new songs that are his most personal and most mature yet. Foregrounding his songwriting and exploring new sounds, “Give Me Time” and “Modern Man”, the first two singles from Cereus Bright’s upcoming sophomore album, are equal parts intimate, cinematic, and timeless

“Give Me Time” and “Modern Man” are the first releases from Cereus Bright’s upcoming sophomore album. These songs blend the honest, folk style of songwriter, Tyler Anthony, with modern, soaring instrumentation, sounds, and layers. These first two songs consider the toll of living in modern society on a macro-level (Modern Man) and a deeply, personal level (Give Me Time).
