Quinn Devlin and the porch bluesy love and longing of "Movie Scene"

"Jenny said "won't you come on down to the edge of town..."

I am crushing hard on the effervescent, down home "Movie Scene" by singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Quinn Devlin. Against somber pedal steel guitar sunshine, wonderful natural electric guitar jags, bass dancing with the drum kit and full folk picking, Devlin spins his yarn. Porch bluesy and forever Americana, the song moves along like a slow dance in the kitchen. The formula, earnest, loving and kind of quirky with Devlin, who has a vocal countenance like a character in a Loretta Lynn song from the halcyon days. He relays easy times, simpler times with friendships in tow.

I wondered briefly when things like getting splashed by gasoline or standing by a rope hanging from a tree or scraping your knee might be deep metaphors (or even shallow ones) but I get the feeling that everything is as you hears them, a fictional recounting of things kissed by real experiences.

When you hear the chorus:

"we're drinking Coca Cola
it's a summer's dream
in the afternoon
like lovers of the movie scene"

I swear that you hear bubbles being blown faintly in the Coca Cola drink. That might be a metaphor too, (wink). This is a song that I didn't know I needed as is Quinn Devlin's vocal persona.
