Name Sayers and the opaque mood and sonic claws of "Lioness" (Official Video)

"I think that Lioness is stalking you / I think that Lioness is following you now..."

The sure pawed, darkly moody "Lioness" by Texas alt rockers Name Sayers, and from their sophomore full length "Joyboys In The Grindhouse", is one of those kind's of tracks that sneaks up on you. You can literally feel the track's hot breath over your shoulder. The textured sound, a mix of alt pop, industrial rock, post punk atmospheres and worldly guitar shapes and rhythms eschew straight genre defining.  The sound, at one point, conjures up an amalgam of Arabic, Spanish, Andalusian tones, sensations. The vocal countenance, intimate, between hushed singing and spoken word feels at once blossoming from seeds of gothic rock or an eerie dream in a horror movie.

Evocative stuff and a testament to less is more production wise and I like that. As press notes share: [The album marks a pop evolution for the band, incorporating elements of psych rock, hip hop, synth pop, and cumbia into their signature muscular sound. The album features guest appearances from guitarist Wayne Kramer of The MC5, Brooklyn rapper Chris Conde, and Orlando rapper E-Turn. Joyboys In The Grindhouse was produced by Grammy nominee Grant Eppley (for Spoon's Lucifer On The Sofa).]
