Shanf and the bending art rock ID side out "Wipelash" with Waxamilion

"so father made you promise not to tell your teacher why / you've been breathing like you wish that you could walk..."

The wonky, questionable, irrepressible, curious art rock wonder of "Wipelash" by Kalamazoo, Michigan based Shanf, the art rock fusion project of musician/producer Shane Freeman (with assistance by Waxamillion), might just feel like the confusion and blissful floating curiosity (and maybe a wee bit of  horror) when a 4 year old you first experienced "It's a Small World" in Disneyland. I can't tell you what the song is about, with it's wobbly structure, amazing trip hop-esque drumming, Freeman's falsetto-ish vocal countenance spilling, no juggling words structured as sentences that may not make sense to you but still illicit emotional context (your own):

"We're turning into you / the love of the youthful object down / The god in you sit's silent eyelids pressed against the glass / Is it dreaming that you wanted anyway / So lie around the morning ice to temple let her go / You've got pictures of her sunset on your phone..."

The sensation is surreal, is all ID side out. The synths sparkle, dip into jazz fusion sometime and feel sort of late 70's pop meets 80's improvisation, Todd Rundgren getting high with Pere Ubu.

"Wipelash" is from Shanf's full length "Meatball" (YES, of course it is) dropping August 18th, 2023.

Shanf is the art rock fusion project of musician/producer Shane Freeman. The songs are products of complex song structures and melancholy vocal performances paired with viscous guitar tracks and loose drum rhythms. Shanf sets it’s tone in the middle ground between sinister and amiable with a soundtrack to suit some of your most nostalgic repressed memories.
