SKORTS and the potent / artful emotional punches of "Bodies"

"you're here but you don't stay gone / I stay but I don't stay long..."

Brooklyn based SKORTS is back with their second release, the emotional shape shifter "Bodies" produced by Teddy O'Mara of Sir Chloe (Atlantic Records). The sway undulating on a slippery synth bass line, erupting chunky alt rock guitars, Alli Walls' magnetic vox and a drum beat that stalks at an almost sinister cadence until things feel out of control. The vibe is so incredibly moody and like a collision of it's disparate atmospheres and, for whatever reason, I though of an amalgam of psychedelic indie, late 70's Detroit rock, post punk and slight baroque pop filtered in. A great pastiche, raw yet measured, artful but torn. I love the power and jammy synergy during the heavier breakdowns, the bass and drums dance, the swelling lead guitar work, the quiet / loud.

The band's press notes offer that "Bodies" [appears to be a powerful anthem but devolves into a state of vulnerability revealing the songs true essence. Defeat, denial, rejection. A longing for something you can't have even though its right in front of you] and you can definitely feel a potent backstory that lingers in between the sonic lines. I love this.
