If the dicey, cagey, dual edged, culture punked alt rapper "Original" by by the modern alternative Mancunian outfit Cooper T was a movie, it might have been directed in tag team fashion by Guy Ritchie, Quentin Tarantino and Panos Cosmatos. The movie that plays in your head while listening might contain brooding characters with vocal chords like low E strings coated in broken glass. The ice cold pushed bass lines with sharp stabs of the high octave notes with solid beats feels like a boxers swagger. The 'movie' might involve bodies thrown in trash cans, dark alleyways and gangsta's galore, heroes and villains and more villains.
Now if you don't have the energy or false desire to create any movie in your head, you are in luck. The Official Video works in every possible way as artuflly directed, shot and edited by Hyde Productions. There are those aforementioned (maybe) gangsters, bull dog people and one adorable bull dog. The rough, ready, humorous Official Video feels thoroughly cinematic.
"Original" is, well, totally original and from the duo's Debut EP "Sapiens" which is co-produced and mixed by Manchester DnB legend Dubphizix, (one of the producers behind LVLZ and many a huge DnB track) alongside Cooper T (Tommo & Jack), who "devour an array music, regurgitating it in their politically tinged vignettes evident across the EP and the upcoming remixes due from Zed Bias, Chimpo, Dub Phizix and Dogger."
"Original" is, though, not about thugs or thug life but a sharp barbed statement about the cookie cutter, dumb downed nature of popular art or maybe even unpopular art.
As Jack notes; "Dunno who needs to hear this song but it's meant to be a friendly wake up call to a generation of wanna be creatives who lack substance and integrity in their work. Its more about everyone else being unoriginal rather than it being a big ego show for us, we are just aware we do our own thing without trying to."

London, UK – 2nd August 2023- Signed to Foundation Music, the Mancunian masked marauders, Cooper T release debut EP: ‘SAPIENS’ today alongside the stunning visuals for new single ‘Original”.
The epitome of a modern, alternative Mancunian band; they are duo cut from Brit-indie heritage yet delivering a future-facing sound and attitude. As informed by the new rap and bass tracks they create out of Northern power house studio NQ, as they are by Manchester heroes LVLZ, Broken English & Children of Zeus, the genre defying duo have already established a name for themselves throughout Manchester and stand as an example of an act able to capture the ominous sound of British life in 2023.
As at home with guitars, bands and punk as they are working ‘inside the box’ on computers, drum machines and synths producing club tracks, their sound is a collision of the classic with the now.
Gradually revealing their hand, the ‘Sapiens EP’ features a taster of their multifaceted DNA. From the DnB tinged, mosh pit indie of acclaimed debut single “Getting In The Way” to the funked up outsider anthem “Outside Looking In”, alongside their dance leaning conspiracy theory filled “Put It All” and their jazz leaning ode to humanity, “Back Then”; the EP is completed with the release of their CAN (legendary experimental German rock band) inspired, chippy, punk funk of lead track “Original”.
New single ‘Original’ is accompanied by a music video directed by rising creatives Hyde Productions and shot in Ancoats, Manchester. An ode to their lives, the video captures the mood perfectly.
