Friday Boys and the big post punk / garage rock swing of "Depressed Gang"

"and I speak codes but I know they know I know they know, they know I know..."

Falling head first into the urgent self described post-modern / post-punk haze of "Depressed Gang" of  Austin's Friday Boys and I instantly feel excitement coarse through my veins. The big live sound is, in my mind, is made up of so many things. Everyone hears music through their own distinct perspective framed, shaped by their own history and age. I feel a super potent cross generational, spinning top blend of proto punk bands like The Skids (1979) or Stiff Little Fingers (circa 1980) that have hints of MOD as well (Friday Boys rock but swing too), plus 90's Fugazi-esque garage punk and heartland / garage rock like Japandroids (2012) all sort of mixed together into something that is just not one specific genre. I dig the vocal aesthetic too. There is a scowl happening but a croon too. Sometimes I just called bands blendo which might only dumbfound people but it seems to fit in this case. Cool.
