The Unlimited Stars and the dreamy pervasive longing of "Open Your Eyes" (Official Video)

Hearing the opening gloriously grand, massive downbeats of "Open Your Eyes" by Austin based The Unlimited Stars that somehow has a 50's James Dean allure (with bomber jacket, cuffed jeans and engineer boots in tow) colliding with the doo wop revival rock of The Pretenders on Top of The Pops in 1980 and I am quite literally swept away. The unfettered abandon, the emotionally drunken swagger and Bre MacKenzie's vocal countenance that feels prickly empowered but sad, ruminates with eyes up at the moon croons and wails too.

Delusion in spades

MacKenzie's lyrics cut and bleed and the duo's other half, drummer / percussionist Wayne V Duncan II, pulls no punches matching Macenzie's guitar shapes with blistering drum fills and shuffles. The two with assorted other musicians to fill out the spaces when needed, create an atmosphere that reads like a novel full of longing and maybe trying to hard for one's own good.
