vireo and the wide awake whimsical dreaming of "Big Elsewhere"

"(duh, duh, duh, duuh, duh) hearts like sunken ships...)

Flittering like butterflies, the slowly unwinding "Big Elsewhere" by Pittsburgh based, lowercased vireo is a shoegazey folk opposite end of a lullaby because despite it's brevity is doesn't make you sleepy but, instead, wide awake and looking at the flights of fancy in your own head. Like slowly stirring rum in your coffee, the song comprised of a dozen sounds and interwoven vocals (some non lexical ones) turns like a dreamspun waltz. The song made in true DIY improvisational style over time isn't too short after all because I just play it on repeat. Below: read words from vireo.

[Big Elsewhere is a song about farsickness and feeling cooped up. Suzanne and I were in quarantine last year, waiting for a pizza to be delivered and the delivery time kept getting delayed. So, we decided to pass the time by starting a recording and treating it like a game. We each chose a single note or a small melodic phrase to layer on top of each other. Then we added a chord progression on top and took turns writing vocal melodies. I spent the next day using chopsticks, mason jars, a big wooden spoon and blowing on a bottle to create the percussion. After a few months, I ended up writing lyrics and we added a few textures. Lastly, to give the song a little warble and character, we ran it through an old reel-to-reel machine that my friend found at some guy's yard sale.]

"Big Elsewhere" is the A side of a single by the same name, dip into the B side "summerending" too, a secretly moving piece, a soundtrack to something special happening.
