Coated with a sticky translucent melancholia "Honey" by San Francisco's Bad Tiger is one of those short songs, at a mere second over three minutes, that if played on repeat will seep into your psyche and hold up a mirror of your core deepest darkest soulful things that are plaguing you at the time. So be warned, if you are full of regret or have been ruminating over and over again in your head about why you didn't say the right thing, the right fucking thing to your sister-in-law last Thanksgiving but said the wrong fucking thing you might think of that moment while listening to "Honey" until you get a really bad stomach ache that only a midnight run through the streets of Los Angeles can solve. Just sayin' so be careful.
Now this magical mirror that "Honey" provides isn't to saying it is not beautiful. It is so goddamn beautiful. I remember hearing it for the first time weeks ago and how stunningly emotional the vocal aesthetic is, framed in such a cool propulsion, god the bass line and skippy drum performance offset with a hooky guitar line kills. There is also layers of other things that I will not mention specifically but drone in the background and, and the belly sort of Fender Rhodes piano are all so lovely. When all those things strip away and you are left with only voice and guitar is when you feel the unfettered sadness and that magical mirror is right up close to your face, so close you might see a tear slowly well up in your left eye.
