Step into the artful nimble sonic meanderings of "Niafunké" by Irish songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Cathal Nally and you will probably walk away, (or shimmy, shake, dance away) with filmic imagery in your head. It is that kind of song, one that has a tremendous sense of wanderlust movement, one that makes me think of a soundtrack to a surf documentary in foreign places. There is a sense of foreign musical influences too, maybe a blend of cumbia and moroccan rhythms, 70's funk and soul grooves (and bass lines) and an amalgam of Spanish and surf rock meets jazzy guitars. A lot going on, your influences 'sense' and mileage may vary.
