joey maxwell and the frenetic alt pop rock ties of "shoelaces" (Official Video)

"Jerry told a lie / She said she didn't like herself / I'm not gonna lie / I'm useless to the cry for help / Benny's not the guy / 'Cause he can never sing on beat / Never gonna fly / I don't know how to move my feet..."

The fluid hyper electric guitar lines of "shoelaces" by South London's Joey Maxwell, like a frenetic 10 year old hopped up on sugar and scary stories feels magnetic but anxious at the same time. As the story builds, swells and Maxwell's vox fall into place like thousands of puzzle pieces against artful bending bass lines, solid in the pocket drums and darkly dreamy drones of sound you want to run or dance like your veins are riddled with caffeine.

I am loving the urgency and Maxwell's vocal countenance and in total I am feeling (I think I am) an amalgam of  Kennyhoopla meets Joy Division meets Goody Grace meets The Drums with Maxwell, of course, doing his own thing.

Of the track, Joey Maxwell explains, "shoelaces is about social anxiety. It follows different perspectives of a party, those internal thoughts desperately worrying about what other people think of you when the reality is that everyone else is probably in the same boat, staring at their shoelaces. I wrote shoelaces on a rainy, grey day last year and it was the first song I wrote that became a catalyst for the genre change I've been going through with these releases.”

About the Video (from Press Notes):

Shot by the highly regarded JAW (Bring Me The Horizon, Jazmin Bean, JGrrey, Kasien), the music video for "shoelaces" adds depth to the song's meaning Portraying the idea of disconnecting from society and highlighting the desire to find solitude within one's own world. In a world where many are obsessed with sharing every aspect of their lives, Joey's work reminds us of the importance of self-reflection and genuine connections. With the release of "shoelaces" and his upcoming project, he's on track to establish himself as an artist who deeply connects with his audience, not only through guitar-laden melodies, but also profoundly relatable narratives.

I'm all screwed
Say it too
I'm all about blue
How about you?

Just put your body 'round me
'Cause I don't mind the shakes, don't mind the squeeze
Just put your body 'round me
'Cause I don't mind the shakes, don't mind the squeeze
Just put your body 'round me
'Cause I don't mind the shakes, don't mind the squeeze
Just put your body 'round me
'Cause I don't mind the shakes, don't mind the squeeze

Joey Maxwell's upcoming EP is due to drop on October 19th.
