On the beautiful, nostalgia dripping "Haunted Hotel", by Nashville's The Prickly Pair, you will be instantly swept away, so much so that you might feel a rush of wistful longing grace past both cheeks of your face. Irene Greene possesses a dreadfully gorgeous vocal countenance and set against Mason Summit's rambling acoustic guitar, pearly piano keys, bass and drones of other sounds, you feel rustic wooden boards raise around you and form a non-descript honky tonk and a pedal steel band on stage.

Irene Greene & Mason Summit join forces as The Prickly Pair, a newly-formed duo specializing in angsty Americana with a contemporary perspective. Both have pursued solo careers, but sought to combine their talents in a project that demonstrates a deep mutual love of country & western traditions while staying true to their own musical instincts. The sound here is Americana, desert moons and stoic souls selling bleeding hearts. Greene and Summit have me thinking of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlins, while tonally, Greene might cast a sonic vision, an amalgam of Linda Ronstadt and Patsy Cline. Just amazing.
