ladylike and the ethereal intricacies, progressive synergy of "Southbound"

"have the patience of a saint / but saints not in fashion..."

Stepping into "Southbound", the debut single by Brighton, UK's ladylike and you will feel emotional propulsions of sound, a progressive synergy of artful bass lines, punch drunk drumming, illusory guitar shapes and movements and (maybe) droning synths as a psychedelic mosaic for Georgia Butler vocals that are at once aloof and self assured, as if gazing at memories.

I absolutely love the sonics here, textured, tactile, thick but ethereal, hazy but pointedly potent. There is a sort of late 70's bohemian psych rock ghost here too and a late 80's Cocteau Twins-ian post punk melancholia and maybe even a sort of early aughts Animal Collective-esque experimental essence all mixed up. This is not to say that they sound like anyone but themselves, in fact, their originality here is top shelf and Butler's voice, the character of her singing style is utterly original and magnetic. This original sound is what drew me in right away.

ladylike is comprised of the aforementioned Georgia Butler on guitar and vocals, Spencer Withey on guitar, synth, and backing vocals), Archie Sagers on bass and James Ely on drums.
