from the terrarium and the utter magical delight of "Sneeze"

"I don't need to dwell / no I don't but I might as well..."

The crinkly and slightly itchy "Sneeze" by the avant bedroom pop outfit "from the terrarium" is built on the kind of pop whimsy that feels like a patchwork of 60's Brit Pop, Casiofied Mellotrons, absurdist plays on plays, proto and art punk, ELO sounds in Terry Gilliam's head, and that kid in elementary school that would always wear a wizards hat no matter what.

The sound feels clean but not clinical, precise but impromptu and I am surprised that they were created in a bedroom in Phoenix, Arizona. I don't know why, maybe this sound seems like it would have been birthed in a place where thick fog would roll in from time to time. I love the vocals on "Sneeze" the gentle spirit and the uplifting chorus bolstered by pretty dense self harmonies.

I dig it. It is more than just dreamlike. It is magical popcorn. Listening, I thought of artists like Harry Nilsson, Split Enz, Panda Bear, Mark Mothersbaugh, Pere Ubu, Flaming Lips and Stereo Total.

"Sneeze" is exists on from the terrarium's eponymous EP.
