The Drood and the dark psychological mania of "Flags"

"page from The Book of Drood"

The dark throttling mania of "Flags" by Denver, Colorado indie-synth-alt rock band The Drood is such a brooding splatter of sounds, washing your senses and tugging them in so many directions. For me, it feels as if James Bond has entered the sick well of dark human behavioristic world of True Detective or if Duane Eddy was somehow in an alternate universe with with an amalgam of artists like Butthole Surfers, The Black Angels, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Blue, My Bloody Valentine. Birthed in 2012 by vocalist and guitarist Nathan Jamiel and drummer Daniel Watts in 2012 the duo reaches into and beyond so many genres to distill their sonic imaginings and within their density of sound I feel an artful collision of sludge metal, doom metal, shoegaze, alternative rock, neo-psychedelic, post punk and 70's psych rock. The sound here though is not splatter but complex layering containing sonic imagery that pushes buttons full of drama, of horror but beauty as well.

"Flags" feels tailor made for a psychological thriller, for Blumhouse, for dark manifestations that are unfortunately all around us. Play "Flags" over Rust Cohle and Marty Hart descending into the man made hell of Carcosa (True Detective- Season One) and this track will add serious chills to the ones already on the screen.

"Flags" is from The Drood's latest album "The Book of Drood".

The Drood is an indie-synth-rock band from Denver, Colorado with a penchant for dark dream-like soundscapes and oddly endearing melodies. Established by vocalist and guitarist Nathan Jamiel and drummer Daniel Watts in 2012, the duo explore a wide range of sonic aesthetics and creative influences. The band's music is a combination of guitar-led indie rock, interwoven with psybient melodies that boldly expand to the fringes of electro, psychedelic, and shoegaze, making for an insightfully experimental sound. There is an other-worldliness and intensity to their music which seeks to speak to the soul, and a fascinating overlap between mysticism and skepticism, inspiration and despair. The Drood push the boundaries of what is typically expected from music, allowing the listener to encounter the abnormal, the uncomfortable, and the beautiful.
