chameleon and the artful emotionally dynamic "The Ransom" (Official Video)

"How you gonna change it all now? / Take it as it looks in its form / Told me you would soften the blow (Oh, oh) / If you knew how you’d have done it by now..."

The cinematic artful abstractions of "The Ransom" by 23 year old Dublin based, Irish composer, multi-instrumentalist / DIY producer Chameleon begins with Al Pacino's voice as Sonny Wortzik from Sidney Lumet brilliant 1975 film Dog Day Afternoon and then descends into a darkly dreamy post rock escapist movie of it's own. Chameleon builds his sonic universes from the ground up writing, recording, producing all aspects of his art. An impressive feet. While I am feeling a decidedly post rock tone on "The Ransom", this Dubliner also pulls from indie soul, electronica, alt pop, indie rock, at once producing a blended sound with a versatile vocal persona.

"Well honey you’re the talk of the town
The people just don’t know anymore
It’s time you turned me over the crown
‘Cause we both know
It never really suit you at all
Who says you’ll love it back on the road?
Seconds late you could meditate
’til you levitate above it all"

Sharing the inspiration behind "The Ransom", chameleon says "A lot of the music that is to come out this year contains a significant amount of frustration and bitterness that I was desperate to release. What you might hear as abrasiveness and spite in the lyrics and instrumentation, is really a fragile coating over a deeper pain. I wanted to explore the perspective of someone who has been hurt in a relationship - who is having their freedom held for Ransom - but who cannot be fully exempt from blame or fault."

LINER NOTES:

[Hot on the heels of his viral hit ‘Who’s That Girl’ with KhakiKid and CARSTEN2X, Irish singer and producer, chameleon, returns with his first original song in two years. ‘The Ransom’ showcases chameleon’s raw talent, creative vision, and marks the start of a new chapter for the 24 year old who writes and produces everything from his home in Dublin. Filmed in Dublin, the single is accompanied by a spell-binding music video directed by Iarla McKeon, with influences steeped in old noir crime cinema, paired with the more modern B&W look of Sin City. With warm guitar riffs, intricate production and a haunting falsetto, the first single of 2024 from chameleon sets the tone of a very versatile and extremely exciting newcomer on the Irish scene.]

In tandem with the amazing Official Video, "The Ransom" is such an artful creation.
