Hominid and the brain pushing, synaptic firing of "Introvert//Extrovert"

 

"Transcending genre boundaries shifting between ambient, electronic, and dance realms..."

Often times when speaking about songs, about music I refer to the space between chords, between sounds and how the relationship between those spaces and the sonic aspects are so important and I believe that but listening to the otherworldly soundscapes of "Introvert//Extrovert" by HOMINID, the project name of Wellington, NZ based sound designer and composer Benny Jennings, and, for the most part there is absolutely no spaces between the sounds. Maybe that is the point, the whirlwind or wash of electronica and the ghostly vocals whether non lexical or words or something in between has less to do with exposition but, maybe instead, disposition. We can't follow lyrics but simply react to our emotional buttons being pushed or grazed by the flood of sounds.

This is not to say that "Introvert//Extrovert" does not have an arc, it certainly does but the narrative is in our own brains and likely changing upon each listen. I like this track because of it's cinematic underbelly, it feels to me like a soundscape for that new realm of film making that might not feel like classical storytelling but adventurous film making where it is less about what is being said or shown but more about how it makes you feel. If that makes any sense.
