Corvus & The Morning Star and the unfettered pure psych rock passion of "A Break In The Clouds"

"hold your thoughts and follow me..."

Something about the unfettered well played passion of "A Break In The Clouds" by Manchester, England based six -piece rock ‘n’ roll ensemble Corvus & The Morning Star, feels unabashedly free of current musical tropes of the day. Maybe it is the exquisite 70's-ish classic rock / blue psych rock atmospheres and the killer pipes of guitarist Charlie Sherliker that have iconic bands like Humble Pie, Rolling Stones and Aorta stirring in my brain. Against an indie music landscape that might have one too many versions of Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Beach House, Slowdive and the OSEES, Corvus & The Morning Star feels so fresh. I mean I can guess (maybe) their inspirations but "A Break In The Clouds" feels like their own iteration and sound as opposed to feeling copycat in any way.

"A Break In The Clouds" is so dynamically rich. The song has a definite musical arc, narrative that effortlessly shape shifts in tonality, in volume, in musical temperament. The live feel, the ambience and vast sound creates a cinematic sweep in your head and heart. Killer vox and absolutely bold psychedelic rock breaks might tap on your nostalgic shoulder but the kind of chamber rock gospel feels timeless.

From LINER NOTES:

Hailing from the Greater parts of Manchester, the six -piece rock ‘n’ roll ensemble Corvus & The Morning Star got together after sending each other demos of songs they had made. Started by Charlie Sherliker (vox and rhythm guitar) and Greg Neil (lead guitar). Paul Hunt (drums) joined soon after and they started to work together on songs that each member brought to the group. The group was completed when Lewis Bolton (bass guitar) Frankie Stokes (tambourine, other percussion) & Sam West (Keyboards) joined the band. From this point, the band have been producing multiple singles from their homes and in the studio. The sound of these include a modern blend of 60’s psych rock, blues, late 80’s and 90’s psych tones. Bringing these up to date with a contemporary edge. The band like to experiment with different flavours from under the psychedelic umbrella using a wide variety of instruments of the time such as sitar, mellotrons and, well, if we told you that would be telling, to add to their sound.
