Cherry Slide and the wistful romance, youthful abandon of "Dog"

"now I know it's the dog days I'm waiting for / they may set me free..."

The mild explosive energy and sublime vibes of "Dog" by Cherry Side, the musical project of UK bred, NYC based Dale Humphries, pushes wistful memory buttons in my head. Sonic touchstones of 90's California College radio, of days that somehow feel less worrisome, of late night hangouts watching indie band goodness at L.A. loft shows, of watching the excesses of youth and the passed out consequences all in the same night but still wishing I could do a redo (knowing what I know now).

I am loving the tonal nature of "Dog", Humphries' high vocal register against the chunky clean, the bright embellishments, brilliantly simple drumming, the comfortable progressions that at times feel familiar and other times utterly surprise, the lyrical stories full of memory inducing moments, nicknames and maybe secret alliances.

"Dog is the lead single from the new Cherry Slide album "The Great Collector" which came out on June 7th.
