Bosola and the exuberant alt punk pummel of "vanilla beige" spins out, always staying real

"I never last the summer sane / Pickled winter heals and then / In Spring I rise to Fall again / Life preserves me / Love is pain..."

The exuberant alt punk pummel of "vanilla beige", by Newcastle alt rock outfit Bosola, spins a tightly wound mix of alt rock, punk, garage rock and, to me, 80's punches. Like that era's subversive rockers like The Saints or Mission of Burma, the sound feels superbly raw, even feral at times even but Bosola have a musical arc here. The song shape shifts from absolute heaviness, to kind of brit punk bass heavy jam rock and later (to me) has hints of classic rock too and even when the song settles into quieter grooves the sound is always at the edge of explosive as the thoughtful lyrics get dark at times and always feel earnest and real.

"I faced fear alone as a child
I've got feelings I cannot name
Faced violence beyond comprehension
I kept quiet to keep you all sane
Now my pain is views with suspicion
Better quiet unseen and alone
Violence beyond comprehension
That child you once knew has grown"

LINER NOTES bracketed :

[‘Vanilla Beige’ is a song about muted rage, mental illness and trauma in a society that straitjackets people into a life of emotional avoidance, masking and surface level conformity. It's a reflection on a millennial generation caught between an increasingly incompetent older generation instilling the stiff upper lip mentality and younger generations who have increasingly focused on emotional intelligence and awareness resulting in an overwhelming sense of material and emotional impotence.

Recorded at Polestar Studios in Byker with Alex Blamire producing and Antony Chapman mastering the track. Influences range from Shame, The Libertines, A Place to Bury Strangers And Gurriers. Expect sing along choruses, unhinged guitars driving themselves into wobbly psychedelia, bass that bops around melodically and drums pounding through your ear drums.]

Great track!

Be well. Do good. Keep dreaming.
